THE MEAN GIRL ATTITUDE…

Hi Nail Lovers, I hope everyone is having a fabulous manicure right now and if you are not, please book your next appointment ASAP! Today I want us to talk about the mean girls in the nail industry! Gosh it felt so good to say that out loud cause I am oblivious to it or rather pretend to be but its there and we need to talk about it.

According to verywellfamily.com, “The label mean girl is an expression used to describe girls who exhibit anti-social behavior known as relational aggression. Mean girl behavior includes gossip,

verbal put-downs of others, bullying backstabbing, and using others to get ahead. Girls who are friendly one minute and mean the next may be referred to as “frenemies”.”

So, now that we know what a mean girl is, do we have mean girls in the nail industry of Nelspruit? Noziphepho seems to think so, alongside with many of my business friends who might not necessarily be in the same industry as me but have told me multiple times about the mean girl attitude in Nelspruit. I have been able to have a very long and amazing journey in nail artistry in Nelspruit because I believe in the saying that “ignorance is bliss” but today we will break down what the mean girl attitude includes.

I have heard multiple times that if you are not in the “cliché” of Nelspruit girls, they will not support your business but can we really blame people for how they choose to spend their money and how do you thrive in your business regardless of not having 50% of the Nelspruit supporting you. Let us go back to niche, find it and use it. I had a salon once in Lekazi, it didn’t work out and I moved to town and things were great. My niche was house calls to the ladies who do not like the salons and it worked for both of us and they were willing to pay extra for the comfort. How consumers decide how to spend their money really does not concern me because of simply understanding niche and my whole blog is not based on consumers but nail technicians.

Since I started my nail supply business, I approached a few of my colleagues and told them about it and how I feel it could benefit them. I could not understand how I could be badly rejected which was really weird because everyone needs supplies. Is it because you hate me that you can go as far as not wanting your business to thrive because of hate? I wont lie I’m still not over it, my anxiety peaked because I couldn’t understand how a business so simple was doing bad and then I had to remind myself that to succeed you must begin and beginnings are usually messy. I could not even look at my stock for weeks, stock that I spent my last savings on because rejection felts so sore and until my friend sent me a quote about how you must accept failure to succeed. I had to dust myself up and start again but before I do, I have these questions to ask. Why? why do we fail to see that our success lies in collaboration! We simply need each other to succeed.

I recently started a Sip and Paint business with my good friend Noni, after the event me and a few friends stayed behind and talked about how we really have each other and we owe it to ourselves to support each other. After the conversation I went to the car with one of my friends who owns Nocca and took a pair of sunglasses to support, Noni bought a pair of earring from Nocca as a present to me to support and the next week I bought a T-shirt form Oh Celestia Looks just to support because we really have each other.

So, here’s what I’m going to do, I’m going to start again and pitch to nail technicians to work in collaboration with them, you need supplies and I need customers. Furthermore, I’m going to start a community of women in different businesses who will come together and collaborate and thrive. That’s how we can win, together!

Don't worry dear, if the people around you do not want to support you, God will bring us strangers- the people you've never met, to support your vision.
